Ajax Cape Town coach Roger De Sa believes young players could make a huge contribution to the national side should they be considered.
‘RDS’ said the Urban Warriors have a young squad which is capable of making history following their recent form as they reached the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 final in a space of three months.
The Capetonians are set to meet Kaizer Chiefs in the Wafa-Wafa final after beating Bidvest Wits by 2-1 to reach for the final.
Speaking to a local website, the ex-Bafana goalkeeper says he doesn’t see a better central defender in the PSL other than Rivaldo Coetzee.
"When I arrived Rivaldo [Coetzee] was 17 and he had a lot of weaknesses. I look at him now and I honestly can't see a better centre-back in this country. Our backline is just under-23s, which is good for us,” said De Sa.
"We have 10 players from our own academy playing in a semifinal of a cup. Can you imagine if every club in the country did that? Where would Bafana be?
“You've got to throw the kids in and hope they can do the business. So far so good, but we have a long way to go.”
The Kakamas-born centre back remains the only player to feature in the national side from Ajax in recent times and is included in the team to face Mauritannia for the 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier.
