Kenya put on foot in the next round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers with a 5-2 victory over hosts Mauritius at Stade George V on Wednesday.
The Harambee Stars took early control of the game though goals from Johanna Omolo and Ajub Masika in the 18th and 23rd minutes respectively, before making 3-0 early in the first half when Haron Shakava scored from close range.
Mauritius threatened a comeback when a Sophie penalty and a Jonathan Bru goal after a scramble in the penalty area made it 3-2, but Kenya pulled further clear with two late goals.
Omolo scored a second to make it 4-2 in the 82nd minute, and shortly thereafter Michael Olunga finished off the game with his side’s fifth goal.
Kenya will host the return game in Nairobi on October 11. The winners of the tie will face Cape Verde in the second round in November.
