The clash between Namibia and Gambia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers could not produce a winner as both sides played to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Gambia.
Although the game couldn’t produce goals in the first half, it was the visitors who opened scoring as the South African-based Petrus Shitembi ensured the Brave Warriors were ahead when he netted in the 64th minute.
Ricardo Mannetti’s men were close to killing the game and walking away with a win, but the hosts came back late in the game.
Striker Savage Demba found an equaliser for Raoul Savoy’s men in the 83rd minute to deny the Southern African side a victory.
The result means the Scorpions will have to do everything in Namibia after failing to use their home advantage.
On the other hand, the Brave Warriors will also be under pressure not to lose twice at home after losing 2-0 to Senegal in the 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers last month.
Both sides are scheduled to face off in the return leg which is scheduled to get underway at Sam Nujoma Stadium next Tuesday, October 13.
