Uganda beat Congo-Brazzaville 1-0 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Caf) qualifier at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Saturday afternoon.

As a result the Cranes moved to the top of the Group E standings, while the Red Devils stay at the bottom of the log.

The Cranes began the match lively with Farouk Miya forcing Congo goalkeeper Wolfrigon Mongondza into an easy save just 15 minutes into the game.

Their early pressure paid off three minutes later as Cranes forward Miya fired past Mongondza to put Uganda into the lead.

Congo midfielder Arnold Bouka unleashed a good shot in the 35th minute, but Uganda midfielder Nicholas Wadada blocked his shot in the box.

The home side were leading 1-0 during the break after containing the Red Devils in the late stages of the first-half.

The Cranes continued their dominance in the second-half with goalscorer Miya's effort from range flying inches wide of the target in the 75th minute.

The visitors responded by introducing attack-minded Ismael Ankobo five minutes later with Arnold Moutou being substituted.

With Congo pushing more men forward in the stages of the match, Uganda defended in numbers to ensure that they walked away 1-0 winners.
