Kenya’s AFC Leopards Monday night qualified for the final of the 2014 Cecafa Nile Basin Cup after seeing off a spirited fight by Burundi’s Academie Tchite FC.
The nine-man AFC Leopards scored two second-half goals to win 2-0 at the Khartoum National Stadium in Sudan.
Uganda international Musa Mudde netted in the 58th
minute off a corner, before Michael Khamati put matters beyond doubt.
The Kenya team, who have won all their games in the tournament, had Noah Wafula and Bernard Mangoli sent off.
The Burundian side, who ejected earlier tournament favourites El Merreikh, also had their coach Jimmy Ndayizeye and Alian Manishimwe sent off.
“We are happy that despite going a man down, we still managed to push for a win,” AFC Leopard’s Dutch Coach Pieter Hendrik De Jong told AfricanFootball.com after the match.
The second semi-final clash between Uganda’s SC Victoria University and Al Shandy of Sudan was to be played later.
The inaugural tournament which attracted 13 clubs will climax on Wednesday.
The winners will take home US$30,000, while the runners-up and third-placed team walk away with US$20,000 and US$10,000, respectively
