New recruit Chriszestom Ntambi’s lone goal was enough to ensure SC Villa beat Sadolin Paints FC 1-0 on Tuesday to go top of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) log.
The former Zimbabwean based player netted in the 35th minute in a game played at the Nakivubo Stadium. The win pushed Coach Sam Ssimbwa’s team top of the log on 36 points as the second round of the League kicked-off.
“We should have scored more goals. But I am happy that we bagged three points,” said Ssimbwa after the match.
Defending champions KCCA FC also managed a 1-0 win away to Entebbe FC to keep chase behind the two teams ahead of them. Tom Masiko converted a 44th minute penalty to give KCCA FC the win.
KCCA FC who also beat Cameroon’s Cosmos De Bafia 1-0 in a CAF Champions League tie last weekend again showed signs of poor finishing in-front of goal. “We need to work on our finishing because it continues to be a problem,” said KCCA FC Coach Abudallah Mubiru.
In the other game played Rwenshama FC moved from bottom of the log after stopping army side Simba SC 2-0. Deogratius Ochola and Duncan Sseninde netted the goals. URA FC also moved to fourth place after struggling to tame Bidco FC 2-1.
New signing from SC Victoria University Yasser Mugerwa netted a late goal on stoppage time for URA FC. Joshua Masene scored first for Bidco FC before Peter Lwasa got the equalizer early in the second half.
