Coach Sam Ssimbwa’s SC Villa returned to top of the log after a hard fought 2-1 win over Rwenshama FC in a Uganda Premier League (UPL) match played at Nakivubo Stadium on Tuesday.
Although teams in the Elite League had decided not to play any League games because after the FA suspended chairman of the Fufa Super League (FSL), Abbas Kaawaase on Monday, the match was played in-front of a small crowd.
Former URA FC forward Erisa Sekisambu netted for the Blues in the 37th minute after a clever pass by Chrizestom Ntambi. The home side showed signs of hanger from the start of the game, but the visitors stood firm and managed to defend in numbers.
On return Rwenshama FC’s Coach Charles Ayiekho pushed his players upfront to look for goals. After 70 minutes Deogratius Ochola leveled matters when he finished off a well laid pass to make it 1-1.
Ntambi, Ronald Muganga together with veteran Hakim Magumba continued to create several scoring opportunities for Ssimbwa’s side, but Rwenshama defended well. Musa Docca snatched the winning goal for SC Villa to make sure they go top of the log ahead of KCCA FC.
“It is unfortunate that we missed so many scoring chances. But we need to keep improving because this is the second round of the League and every match counts,” said Ssimbwa after the match.
