Sports Club Villa are top of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) log after registering a hard fought 2-1 win over army side Simba SC on Tuesday in a game played at the Bombo Stadium.
The win took Coach Ibrahim Kirya’s team to 60 points just like SC Vipers, but with a better goal difference. SC Vipers who have been top of the log for several weeks failed to collect maximum points after settling for a 1-all draw away to SC Victoria University at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Dennis Kamanzi and Victor Emenayo netted for SC Villa, while Isaac Muleme scored an own goal for the hosts. “We should have won the game comfortably, but put our selves under a lot of pressure. We need to improve in the remaining games,” said Kirya.
At Namboole Fahad Toko scored for the hosts, while Julius Malingumu netted for SC Vipers. Defending champions KCCA FC maintained their third place on the log with a goalless draw against Bidco FC, while Kira Young stopped Soana FC 2-1.
John Ssemazi netted the lone goal to make sure Express FC picked maximum points against Police FC 1-0, while Bright Stars FC managed a 1-0 away win over Entebbe FC.
With the League expected to climax before the end of the month the battle remains between SC Villa and SC Vipers. KCCA FC are off the pace and will only try to get a slot to represent Uganda in the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup if they manage a win over SC Villa in the Uganda Cup final on June 5th.
