Former Akwa United star Ubong Ekpai has told AfricanFootball.com that his move to Europe has made up for him missing out on next month’s Rio Olympics.

Ekpai was the match winner for Nigeria in a famous win over Rio Olympics hosts Brazil in a friendly in March.

But he has had to sort out his club future about the time the Olympic team were preparing for Rio 2016 and so he will now not be in Brazil in the summer.

“I will miss the Olympics but at the same time, I thank God my dream to play in Europe finally came true,” said Ekpai, who has been loaned out by top Israeli club Maccabi Haifa to FC Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic.

“And so far I have enjoyed my time, scoring a goal in one of our pre-season games.”
