Wydad Casablanca went top of their CAF Champions League group thanks to a goal in the dying seconds of the match from Fabrice N'Guessi Ondama which handed the Moroccan side a 2-1 win over ASEC Mimosas at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Sunday night.
The opening half between Wydad and ASEC produced no goals with both sides squandering possession in the final third which resulted in very few scoring chances.
The game’s first goal came on the hour mark when Abdeladin Khadrouf gave Wydad the lead with a clinical finish, 1-0.
ASEC, though, quickly hit back and equalised eight minutes after going behind courtesy of a goal from Krahire Zakri, 1-1.
It was frantic final twenty minutes as both sides pushed for a winner, and it was the home side that managed to find the back of the net thanks to a goal from Fabrice N'Guessi Ondama in the dying seconds of the match, 2-1.
The result sees Wydad move to the top of Group A with ten points, overtaking second placed Zesco United who drew 2-2 with Al Ahly on Friday night and have eight points.
ASEC are third in Group A with five points while Al Ahly prop up the group also on five points, but the Cote d’Ivoire side have a better head-to-head against the Egyptian side.
ASEC are next in action for their final CAF Champions League, Group A match against Al Ahly at home on August 24 while Wydad will be away against Zesco United on the same date.
