Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure faces an uncertain four months after it was revealed that Pep Guardiola left him out of the clubs 2016-17 UEFA Champions League squad.

City could only included a maximum of 17 overseas players in their squad, and with 18 on their books - Toure failed to make the cut.

Clubs can change three players after the group stages, but the 33-year-old Toure will miss games against Celtic,Borussia Monchengladbach and former employers Barcelona.

The Ivory Coast international has been key to City's success since his arrival at the club in 2010, but Guardiola's appointment has seen him fall down the pecking order - the Spanish coach sold Toure to the Sky Blues for £24 million six years ago.
