Gabriel Wassa has said he is delighted to score his first goal for new club Rivers United.
Wassa struck in the 69th minute to double United’s lead after Lukman Mohammed had opened the scoring for the Port Harcourt club in the 11th minute against ‘The Anambra Warriors’ at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Friday.
The former Niger Tornadoes star was pleased to make a goal-scoring contribution for the ‘Pride of Rivers’ as they notched up their first win in Nigeria’s most prestigious pre-season tournament.
“I am very happy to have scored my first goal for Rivers United,” he said.
“I tried to do it against Enugu Rangers, but I was unlucky.
“The goal was important because it gave us the win against a difficult FC Ifeanyiubah side.
“Now we must focus on winning our next game against Wikki Tourists.”
Rivers United are in third place on the Super 4 standings with three points from two games.
