Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah’s absence from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations could be of great benefit to his club career, according to GHANASoccernet.
The Ghanaian veteran asked to be excluded from his country’s squad for the tournament in Gabon and was duly left out of Avram Grant’s 26-man preliminary selection.
It is expected that Asamoah will be rewarded for his decision by Juve coach Max Allegri, who will need the Ghanaian’s experience and versatility in January and February.
The Italian champions are set to be without Mehdi Benatia and Mario Lemina, who will represent Morocco and hosts Gabon respectively at the tournament.
Juve will also miss Dani Alves, Alex Sandro and Leonardo Bonucci, who are all in various stages of recovery from their injuries, freeing up space for Asamoah to feature more regularly.
The midfielder will be missed by Ghana, but he is still searching for peak form and fitness after spending most of the last two years sidelined with various injuries.
