According to GHANASoccernet, goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey will not have to undergo a surgery on the back injury which ruled him out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Norwegian-based goalkeeper was named in the Black Stars’ 26-man preliminary squad just under a week ago, but when coach Avram Grant trimmed the group to a final selection of 23, Kwarasey’s name had been removed due to a back injury.

In his stead, Fatau Dauda – who has been a squad member at three previous AFCONs – was named in the 23-man list.

Media reports in Ghana claimed that the 29-year-old Rosenborg player would require surgery on his injury.

However, GHANASoccernet reports that this is not the case and the goalkeeper is expected to be fit to resume playing after a few weeks’ rest.

Ghana will open their Group D campaign at the 2017 AFCON with a match against Uganda in Port-Gentil on January 17.
