Danish SuperLiga side Sonderjyske FC has axed Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi.

The club announced that they have terminated the five year contract of the player early this week.

According to a statement on the official club website, the club sports manager Hans Jørgen Haysen said Okwi has not received much playing time and the prospect of more playing time has not improved.

“We have therefore by mutual agreement agreed to separate our ways,” said Haysen.

Okwi, who was part of the Uganda Cranes team that qualified for the on-going 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Gabon, has only scored two goals for the club since joining two years ago.

Okwi previously featured for SC Villa in Uganda, Simba and Young Africans in Tanzania before moving to join Etoil Du Sahel in Tunisia.

He, however, had a contractual dispute with the Tunisian giants and the matter was eventually resolved by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
