Nigeria champions Rangers will pay a fine to CAF for the late registration of star striker Chisom Egbuchulam after he failed to bag a contract in Tunisia.
It is believed the fine will be $500.
Egbuchulam was not included among the 25 players already submitted to CAF for the preliminary round matches of the Champions League.
Rangers are billed to face Algerian side JS Saoura in the first round preliminary match next weekend.
"Egbuchulam was not among the players we registered for the continental. He was not also registered for the league. You know he had traveled out to Tunisia and nobody expected the Tunisian deal would collapse", an official of Rangers said without wanting to be named.
Egbuchulam's domestic and continental shutout followed his earlier move to Etoile Du Sahel of Tunisia which never sailed through.
He was later to be linked with Club Africaine also of Tunisia but after a successful medicals and personal terms agreement with the club that once had Victor Ezeji and Junior Osagie on their pay roll, the deal collapsed.
"The failure of the Club Africaine deal was more between the agent and the Tunisian club and not on the part of Chisom or Rangers", the Enugu Rangers official added.
Egbuchulam was Rangers top scorer last season with 16 goals. He has already resumed training with Rangers since his return from the failed Tunisia deal.
