Thomas Partey has expressed his sadness that Ghana disappointed their fans at the 2017 AFCON.
Ghana endured another disappointing Africa Cup of Nations showing in Gabon 2017, finishing in fourth place after they lost the bronze medal match against Burkina Faso this past weekend. The West African giants have not won a continental crown since 1982.
Yet Partey is one of the few Black Stars players to emerge from the tournament with credit, winning over his critics with some impressive performances in the middle of the park.
The Atletico Madrid player posted the following message, addressed to Ghanaian fans, on his Facebook page:
“It was the dream and wish of all Ghanaians to win the prestigious cup of AFCON 2017 but unfortunately we couldn't attain that goal.
“We are sorry for disappointing all Ghanaians around the world who have given us the massive support and rallied behind us since day 1.
“Nevertheless all I can say is a big thank you to Ghana for giving me this opportunity to serve my beloved country.
“All is not lost and we hope to come back strongly the next time and bring joy to the faces of all Ghanaians.
“Long live Ghana ! Long live the black stars!!”
