With question marks hanging over the fitness of midfielder Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal are set to put him through a fitness test to determine whether he can face Hull City in the Premier League this weekend.
Elneny was a key player for Egypt at the recently-completed 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 24-year-old played in all three of their group stage matches, but missed the quarterfinal and semifinal against Morocco and Burkina Faso respectively due to a calf injury he sustained in training.
He returned to the Pharaohs’ line-up for the final this past Sunday, playing 90 minutes and scoring a fine goal as his side went down 2-1 at the hands of Cameroon.
The combination of travel fatigue and any hangover from his injury means the Gunners are not prepared to throw him in the deep end, despite their current injury crisis in the middle of the park.
The Daily Mail reports that the Egyptian will undergo a stringent fitness today (Wednesday) to determine whether he will be fit to face the Tigers in the early kick-off on Saturday.
