The preliminary round of the 2017 Confederation Cup is well underway, with 11 of the 20 first leg ties completed by Saturday night.
South Africa’s Platinum Stars look to be on course to progress into the next round, having claimed a 1-0 home win over Mozambique’s 0US Songo on Saturday in Rustenburg. Dikwena will face a tough return game next weekend, but Robert Ng’ambi’s goal gives them control of the tie.
Other notable results so far include a stunning 3-0 home win for Liberia’s MC Breweries over Algerian giants JS Kabylie on Friday and a goalless draw between Uganda’s Vipers and minnows Volcan Club from the Comoros.
Swazilands Mbabane Swallows will be delighted with their 1-0 away win over Botswana’s Orapa United, while Rwanda’s Rayon Sport are all but through to the next round after a 4-0 away win over South Sudan’s Wau Salaam.
Morocco’s Maghreb Fez also flexed their muscles with a 3-0 win over CARA Brazzaville of the Congo and Hilal Obiedo of Sudan were 2-0 winners over St Michel United of the Seychelles.
