In the wake of their 0-0 draw against Rwanda's Patriotic Army in the CAF Champions League, Zanaco striker Fashion Sakala has rued the mass exodus at the club.

The Zambian Premier League giants were held at home and will now head to Kigali for the second leg next weekend.

However, Sakala says the departure of several key players affected the team’s performance on Saturday in the opening round against APR.

Sakala told the Daily Mail in Zambia that the mass exodus of players has ‘shaken Zanaco’ and the team will need experienced players.

Meanwhile, players such as Isaac Chansa, Roderick Kabwe, Fackson Kapumbu, Salulani Phiri, Aubrey Funga and Dave Daka have all left the team.

The forward is also leaving to join Russian First National League side Spartak 2 Moscow on a three-year deal, but remains upbeat they can beat APR away.

“That is a problem for my team. Many good players left and I am also leaving but there is no player who is bigger than the team,” said Sakala.

“Even the players who are still there are very good.

“We just have to be focused, it’s not over. We can still score away and beat them [APR]. I believe we still have a good team.”

On the other hand, coach Mumamba Numba added that his charges will qualify for the first round despite a shaky start.

“Our chances of qualifying to the next round are at 50-50. When we get a scoring draw in Rwanda we will pull through,” adds Numba.

“We played a good game against a tough side that feeds Rwanda with national team players and that participates in the Champions League every year.”
