The South African Football Association (SAFA) have praised Absa Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns after they won the 2017 CAF Super Cup.

Brazilian defender Ricardo Nascimento netted the only goal of the match as the Brazilians beat DR Congo giants TP Mazembe 1-0 in Pretoria on Saturday.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan stated that Sundowns, who the 2016 CAF Champions League winners, deserved to beat last year's CAF Confederation Cup winners, Mazembe.

"It was great day for South African football," Jordaan tells

"[Sundowns] are now not only Champions League champions but also Super Cup champions.

"So in club football, we are the best. Congratulations to Sundowns they deserve it," he said.

"It was difficult game. Mazembe has great pedigree and have been champions in Africa for many years and you could see the quality today [Saturday].

"To Pitso (Mosimane), the players and Patrice (Motsepe) congratulations for making all of us proud."
