Thomas Partey and Yaya Toure are set to represent the African continent as the UEFA Champions League round of 16 continues on Tuesday evening with Manchester City v Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen v Atletico Madrid.

Toure will be looking to feature prominently in midfield for the Citizens as they welcome the French Ligue 1 side to the Etihad Stadium.

Nigerian attacker Alex Iwobi is another hoping to play a major role for Pep Guardiola’s side against a Monaco team which boasts three African players in their squad: Morocco’s Nabil Dirar, Senegalese goalkeeper Seydou Sy and Malian Almamy Toure.

At the BayArena, Leverkusen will look to establish a first-leg advantage against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, who finished as runners-up in last season’s Champions League.

Atletico will be able to call on the talents of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, though he is likely to be utilised as an ‘impact player’ coming off the bench – a role he has matured in under the guidance of coach Diego Simeone.

The return leg matches of the ties will be held on March 15, while the first-leg matches in the last 16 round will wrap up tomorrow evening with Porto v Juventus and Sevilla v Leicester City.
