Goals from Hassan Hassan and a late goal from Ibrahima Niane ensured Senegal play to a 1-1 draw against Sudan in the 2017 CAF Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Group B match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Monday afternoon.
The draw for the Senegalese means they bag a point from one match and will now hope to beat South Africa in their second game on Thursday.
As early as the first minute, the junior Lions of Teranga attacked the final third from a corner, but striker Niane saw his shot in the box over the cross bar.
However, in the 14th minute, Joseph Koto's men were dealt a huge blow when skipper Mamadou Diarra was red carded after committing a foul on Eid Abakar Mugadam, who was making a brilliant run into the box.
Three minutes later, the junior Falcons of Jediane received a penalty when Moussa Ba fouled Khaled Osman inside the penalty area and the Egyptian referee didn't hesitate to award a spot kick.
In the 20th minute, Hassan calmly converted from the spot beating Senegal goalkeeper Lamine Sarr on his right post making it 1-0.
Senegal pushed to find an equaliser and substitute Mamadou Mbaye came close to finding one when he connected with a corner from the right, but his header went inches wide in the 33rd minute.
It was 1-0 at the interval.
With 31 minutes remaining on the clock, Ibrahima Ndiaye beat two defenders in the box, but the forward saw his left-tooted strike coming off the woodwork.
Sudanese keeper Alnour Saeed was the busiest in the second stanza as Senegal spent more time in his area, but the 17-year-old collected most aerial balls.
With two minutes to go, Senegal equalised when Niane scored from close range following an error by keeper, Saeed who spilled the ball in the box allowing the lanky forward to pounce.
In the end, both sides shared the spoils as the Sudanese now have one point next to their name in the group from one match and will meet Cameroon on Thursday.
