Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained that he is happy with the performance of his fringe players in their Nedbank Cup win on Monday.

The Brazilians eased into the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-0 home win over lower league opponents Mariveni United.

Mosimane made eight changes to the team which lost 1-0 to Cape Town City in an Absa Premiership clash this past weekend. Leonardo Castor and Anthony Laffor netted the decisive goals for ‘Downs.

“I’m very happy for Madisha [Motjeka Madisha, who was named man of the match] – coming in from the MDC and winning the man of the match, that’s what the MDC is for,” the coach told SuperSportTV after the game, as quoted by Kick Off.

“And [Samuel] Julies – who I should have brought on earlier – did exceptionally well in the number 10 position, which is encouraging.

“Unfortunately I could not play Flavio Bento as there are some first team players who have been waiting on the sides to play, but if I could, I would have made more changes and give the guys from the MDC a run.”

Sundowns will next be in action on Friday when they host Ugandan side KCCA in the first leg of their first round CAF Champions League tie.
