Free State Stars and Highlands Park will meet in an all-PSL clash in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup at Goble Park Stadium. The match is scheduled for Saturday, 11 March 2017, kick-off at 20h15.
The meeting of Stars and Highlands is one of just two matches in the last 32 round which sees two top flight sides come up against one another. The other is Golden Arrows v Maritzburg United on March 12.
Stars and Highlands have crossed swords twice already this season in the Absa Premiership. Their first clash in Tembisa back in October 2016 ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw, while they met as recently as March 5 in a match which ended 1-0 in favour of the visiting Highlands team.
Stars have never won the Nedbank Cup, though they were runners-up in the 1994 final (as QwaQwa Stars), losing out on the Bob Save Super Bowl (as the competition was known at the time) as they went down 1-0 at the hands of Vaal Professionals.
Last season Ea Lla Koto got as far as the semifinals of the 2016 Nedbank Cup, eliminating Ajax Cape Town, Santos and Bidvest Wits before losing 4-2 to Orlando Pirates at the penultimate stage.
Highlands can also claim to be past runners-up in the Nedbank Cup: in a past incarnation they were beaten 2-0 on a replay by Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the 1979 Mainstay Cup (as the competition was known at the time).
Last season the Lions of the North appeared in the last 32 round (they were a National First Division team at the time) and lost 1-0 after extra time to Mamelodi Sundowns.
