British tactician Peter Butler has confirmed that he's currently negotiating a new contract with the Botswana Football Association (BFA).

The 50-year-old, who is a former West Ham United midfielder, has been in charge of the Botswana senior national team, the Zebras, since February 2014.

Butler's deal with BFA is now set to expire at the end of March 2017 and the organisation has began talks with the outspoken coach.

“I and the president (Maclean Letshwiti) have been in communication," Butler told Sunday Standard.

"And I have to say he has been very good and understanding and he wants to bring the uncertainty to a swift conclusion.

"I have loved the challenge here I have a great working relationship with the president and my players and have a very good relationship with the people of Botswana.”

Butler guided the Zebras to the 2016 COSAFA Cup final where they narrowly lost to South Africa's Bafana Bafana in Windhoek, Namibia.
