Yaya Toure “can play wherever he wants” according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who believes the Ivorian would be worthy of a big club even if he leaves the Etihad Stadium.
Toure was frozen out of the Citizens team under the Spaniard tactician early in the season, but he has since re-established himself as a key figure and has earned rave reviews for his recent performances.
With Toure’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, there are doubts over where his future lies. The 33-year-old will be hoping to remain in Manchester for at least another campaign, but the club have yet to confirm whether they will be offering the player an extension.
Whether he stays or goes, Guardiola reckons Toure still has what it takes to play for a top team at the highest level.
"He [Toure] can play for big, big clubs. He can play wherever he wants,” said Guardiola.
"He has a big personality and this season, he is helping me by playing top, top football.
"He will play football until he decides because he loves playing. He enjoys playing and loves playing games. When that happens, he will decide.
"The focus now needs to be on winning games and competitions. We will talk about everything else at the end of the season."
