Indonesian side Persib Bandung have signed former Ghana international Michael Essien on a one-year contract.
"Welcome! @MichaelEssien is officially a member of #PERSIB's big family," a statement from the club read.
GHANASoccernet reports that Essien will earn 800,000 Euros in his one-year stay, making him the highest-paid player in the Asian country.
The ex-Black Stars man will wear his famous number 5 jersey for the club and is easily the biggest signing in the Indonesian Liga Satu (formerly known as the Indonesia Super League) this season.
Essien, who has played for the likes of Olympique Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan in his club career, has been without a team since 2015 when he left Greek giants Panathinaikos.
He has been linked with moves to the Australian top flight and Sweden, but Persib Bandung’s offer was too good for the Ghanaian to refuse.
