Granada are appealing to have Ghanaian Mubarak Wakaso’s dismissal in a Spanish league match against Atletico Madrid this past weekend overturned.
Wakaso was sent off in injury time of Granada’s 1-0 loss to Atletico. The midfielder was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card, having already been booked in the 72nd minute.
Granada face a relegation ‘six-pointer’ away to Sporting Gijon this coming Sunday and are desperate to have Wakaso – who would otherwise be suspended – available for the crunch match.
They have therefore appealed to the Spanish Football Federation to have the red card overturned, arguing that the player’s fouls didn’t merit two cautions from the match referee.
Granada currently lie 18th on the La Liga table with 19 points from 17 matches. Their opponents Sporting Gijon are just one point and one position further back.
Wakaso has made six Liga appearances and scored one goal since joining Granada from Panathinaikos in the January transfer window.
