Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed why former Cameroon international Joel Matip didn't start against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
The lanky centre back was introduced in the 65th minute as the Reds drew 2-2 with Bournemouth in an English Premier League (EPL) game in Liverpool.
German tactician Klopp disclosed that Matip had a minor back injury prior to their to their encounter which was played at the iconic Anfield Stadium.
"Have you ever had back problems? I can explain exactly how it was," Klopp said on the Liverpool Echo.
"He came on the pitch this morning for a little, little session. It looked good. But then he had to fix his boots and then it didn't look good.
"Obviously you can find someone in the game to fix your boot but I thought it's not 100% and this game is not 100%," he added.
"We brought him on because there was another warming up and we asked again and it was then better.
"Yes, maybe probably he could have played 90 minutes, not sure."
Matip, who was born in Bochum, Germany, has made 22 league appearances for the Reds - netting once in the process in his debut season.
