Orlando Pirates head coach Kjell Jonevret believes that influential midfielders Oupa Manyisa and Mpho Makola are key to the club's success this season.

The two midfielders were on the scoresheet as the Buccaneers hammered Free State Stars 4-1 in the Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter over the weekend.

"Oupa, when I arrived here at the club, a lot of people told me Oupa has been so weak for some time and I think he has been our best player for long now,” said Jonevret told SuperSport TV.

“He was the same again and I think he was very good out there and he was the same again.

"But of course [they are] our key players, I mean both goals for example were fantastic goals," he continued.

“Last week he [Makola] wasn’t able to be here because of the injury and players like that they have to step forward.

"They have to be the first in line because if we play like this we can win many matches.”

The Swedish tactician will look to Pirates captain Manyisa, 28, and Makola, 30, to inspire the Soweto giants to victory when they face Maritzburg United on Tuesday.

Twelve-placed Pirates are scheduled to host eighth-placed Maritzburg in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.
