Incoming Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah was given a rousing farewell by Sudanese side Al Khartoum this past weekend.

Appiah will be leaving the East African side to take up his new post as the Black Stars’ coach, having been appointed by the Ghana FA last week. He will officially begin his duties on May 1.

Appiah had his last game in charge of Al Khartoum this past weekend, overseeing a 3-0 away win over Tiraat Al Bija in a league clash. The result leaves Khartoum seven points adrift of leaders Al Hilal with a game in hand.

Appiah will have his second spell in charge of Ghana, having guided the team from 2012 to 2014. He oversaw a successful qualification for the 2014 World Cup, but a disastrous showing at the tournament in Brazil ultimately cost him his job.

He replaces Israeli Avram Grant, who parted ways with Ghana after a disappointing 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
