Chelsea will have to see of competition from Serie A sides AC Milan and Roma if they are to sign Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie from Atalanta.
The 20-year-old Elephants midfielder has earned rave reviews for his performances in Atalanta colours this season and he has been strongly linked with a move to Premier League leaders Chelsea.
However, reports in the Italian media claim that Roma and Milan are also keen on the services of a player who has been branded ‘the new Yaya Toure’.
Corriere della Sera reports that Milan have put Kessie at the top of their shopping list, though claims that there is an agreement in place are wide of the mark.
In fact, if any team has struck terms with Atalanta it’s more likely to be Roma, and they would representative a superior choice compared to Milan because they will play Champions League football next season.
Yet Chelsea remain the favourites to land Kessie because of their financial power, with Atalanta hoping to land upwards of 20-million pounds for the player - a fee well within the Blues’ budget.
Kessie himself is reportedly leaning toward Milan, though he remains open to all options, even the possibility of staying with Atalanta for another season.
