The 2017 CAF Champions League group stage matches began on Friday with six matches taking place across the African continent.

Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel hammered Mozambican outfit Ferroviario Beira 5-0 in the Group A encounter at the Stade Olympique de Sousse in Sousse.

Diogo Acosta grabbed a brace for Sahel, while Alkhali Bangoura, Hamza Lahmar and Hameur Bouazza also scored for the home side.

Another Group A encounter saw Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman host their local rivals Al Merreikh at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.

Shobowale Azeer fired the home side into the lead in the first-half, but Elsamani Saadeldin equalized for the visitors in the second-half as the two sides drew 1-1.

In Group B, Algerian side USM Alger brushed aside Libyan club Al Ahli Tripoli 3-0 at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers.

Farouk Chafai opened the scoring for the home side, before Carolus Andriamatsinoro doubled their lead. Oussama Darfalou sealed Alger's win.

Egyptian giants Zamalek defeated Zimbabwean outfit CAPS United 2-0 in the other Group B match at the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Borg El-Arab.

Bassem Morsi broke the deadlock for Zamalek in the second-half, while Stanley Ohawuchi sealed the home side's win in the late stages of the match.

The only Group C match on day featured Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis and DR Congo side AS Vita Club at the Stade Olympique de Rades in Rades.

Yazid Atouba fired the visitors into the lead, but Fousseny Coulibaly, Taha Yassine Khenissi and Anice Badri all scored to seal Esperance's 3-1 victory.

Lastly, Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca played host to Cameroonian club Coton Sport in a Group D encounter at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.

William Jebor put the home side into the lead in the first-half, while Amine Atouchi sealed Wydad's 2-0 victory three minutes after the hour-mark.
