New Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has retained Asamoah Gyan as the team’s captain.
Andre Ayew will also keep his position as vice-captain, with Appiah retaining the status quo as he returns for a second spell at the helm of the Black Stars.
It was speculated that Appiah would opt for a new skipper as he aims to lead Ghana into a new era of success, but the coach himself explained his choice upon being officially unveiled by the country’s FA on Tuesday.
“Nothing has changed. Asamoah Gyan remains captain and Andre Ayew is his assistant. Let's support them,” said Appiah.
The new coach’s first assignment will be getting Ghana off to a winning start in the group phase of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They will host Ethiopia in early June.
