Kaizer Chiefs have announced the appointment of a new assistant coach in the club's former skipper and defender, Patrick Mabedi.
The former Malawian and Amakhosi centre-back has been handed a two-year deal to work in the first team together with coach Steve Komphela.
Mabedi comes in to replace Komphela's former assistant John Paintsil who left the club last week after both parties terminated their partnership..
The Flames legend starred for the Soweto giants from 1998 to 2006 as he enjoyed a successful career, winning two Absa Premiership titles in 2003/4 and 2004/5 respectively.
The former Moroka Swallows and Mpumalanga Black Aces assistant coach returns to Naturena from Cape Town All Stars where he was head coach in the National First Division.
“I am happy to be back home,” said Mabedi. “I look forward to making a contribution to the success of this great institution. This is a privilege. I wish to thank the Club Management for this opportunity.”
Amakhosi will kick start their pre-season preparations when they meet Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Champion Cup on July 29 at FNB Stadium
