South African referee Victor Gomes will officiate the 2017 CAF Champions League match between Algerian outfit USM Alger and Egyptian giants Zamalek on Wednesday, 21 June.
Zamalek are sitting at the top of Group B standings, just a point above Alger after the two sides played to a 1-1 stalemate at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Egypt almost a fortnight ago.
One of South African's top referees, Gomes will be in charge of the next game between Alger and Zamalek. The game is scheduled to take place at the Stade du 5 Juillet in Algers.
This was confirmed by the South African Football Association (SAFA) on their official website:
"Victor Gomes, Lindikhaya Bolo, Sandile Dilikane and Victor Hlungwani will form the quartet of SAFA referees appointed by the governing body of African football to officiate in one of the most hostile venues on continent.
"Gomes will be making his second trip to North Africa after officiating in a high-profile match between Cameroonian side, Coton Sports and Egyptian powerhouse, Al Ahly in Cairo earlier this year while Hlungwane was also part of a trio that officiated in a recent Champions League match in Sudan between Al Hilal Elobied and Gambia Ports Authority FC in April.
"Gomes is appointed at the match referee and will be assisted by Bolo and Dilikane while Hlungwani holds the fort as the fourth official.
"The quartet is expected to jet off to Algeria on Sunday, 18 June," a statement read.
