The drew sees Egyptian side Smouha remain at the bottom of Group C table with five points, while Zambia's Zesco clim to the second spot wit seven spot.

The Blue Wave threatened just five minutes into the match when Ahmed Hassan's effort narrowly missed the target.

Jackson Mwanza was lively upfront for Zega Mambo, but he was not timing his runs as the striker was ruled offside twice in the opening stages of the game.

On the half-hour mark, Jesse Were found some space outside the Smouha box, but the Zesco attacker fired over the goal-posts.

The home side then pressed Zega Mambo with the half-time break fast approaching.

However, Zesco stood firm at the back and the score was 0-0 during the half-time break following a relatively quiet first-half.

The home side made the first change of the match nine minutes into the second-half as Banou Diawara, a striker by trade, was introduced.

Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda had to be alert on the hour-mark and he produced a fantastic save to deny Hassan, whose header was goal-bound.

The visitors had to respond as Smouha dominated the match and Mischeck Chaila came on for Dave Daka as Zesco looked to break the deadlock.

Zega Mambo did grab a late goal when Smouha defender Yasser Ibrahim netted an own goal to make it 1-0 to Zesco in the 84th minute.

However, the home side were awarded a late penalty which was converted by substitute Diawara to ensure that Smouha and Zesco drew 1-1.
