Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma .

The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who was nurtured in the Chiefs academy, broke into the Amakhosi first team and he made his debut against Cape Town City during the 2016/17 campaign.

Bvuma made his debut for South Africa's senior national team, Bafana Bafana as they beat Botswana 2-0 in the 2017 COSAFA Cup plate semi-final match at the Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday.

“I was inspired by Itumeleng Khune when I saw him play in the World Cup‚” Bvuma told The Sowetan.

“Seeing him inspired me to say that one day‚ I want to see myself playing for my country and play in big tournaments. That’s when I started to take football seriously in 2010.

Bvuma and Khune, 30, could both be part of the Chiefs squad that will take part in the 2017 Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup semi-final match in Orkney, South Africa on 15 July.

"I worked hard to be just like him and now he is my teammate and I am also in the national team setup," he continued.

"We share jokes together and he helps me in terms of goalkeeping and everything in my life.

"He guides me. I can call him anytime if I have a problem and he is always willing to help.”

Chiefs will take on Botswana side Township Rollers in a semi-final clash at the James Motlatsi Stadium. Kick-off is at 12h00 CAT.
