Following speculation that AmaZulu were close to buying Thanda Royal Zulu's Premier Soccer League status, the PSL has since approved the deal.

This means Usuthu will campaign in the elite division, the South African Absa Premiership, in the 2017/18 season, thus ending their two-year stay in the National First Division.

In a statement, the league's governing body announced that the deal was approved and the Durban-based outfit will now return to the country's top flight.

“‘The club formerly known as Thanda Royal Zulu will campaign in the Premier Division of the League under the name AmaZulu Football Club and be relocated to Durban,” said the PSL.

“Richards Bay Football Club will campaign in the National First Division and be located in Richards Bay’, and that ‘the club formerly known as FC Cape Town will campaign in the National First Division under the name of Ubuntu Cape Town Football Club.”

Amabhubesi gained promotion to the Absa Premiership in the 2016/17 NFD campaign as they finished as NFD champions.

However, financial issues led to the chairman, Pierre Delvaux, announcing that he will find it difficult to lead the club in the PSL as it was costly to do so.

Usuthu will become the third side in the PSL from KwaZulu-Natal, joining Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows.
