Guinea thrashed Guinea-Bissau 3-1 in the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier Zone West A first-leg match at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Saturday.

The two West African sides are set to clash again in the second-leg match in Conakry next weekend and winner on aggregate will face either Sierra Leone or Senegal in the second round.

The home side threatened first in the opening stages of the Zone West A first-leg encounter, but they were unable to hit the back of the net.

Amadou Oury Barry then had a chance to fire Guinea's National Elephants into the lead, but the attacker was ruled offside 15 minutes into the game.

Djurtus came close to scoring 10 minutes later, but National Elephants goalkeeper Moussa Camara punched the ball away from danger.

The score was 0-0 during the half-time break following a closely contested first-half in the city of Bissau.

The deadlock was broken a few minutes into the second-half and it was the National Elephants, who took the lead against Djurtus.

Saidouba Bissiri Camara hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Guinea - stunning the Guinea-Bissau fans inside the Estadio 24 de Setembro.

However, Guinea-Bissau managed to restored parity after the hour-mark much to the delight of the home crowd inside the stadium.

A mistake by National Elephants shot-stopper Camara handed Djurtus the equalizing goal and the score was 1-1 with 22 minutes left on the clock.

After that Guinea took control of the game and Mohamed Sorel Camara restored the National Elephants' lead - making it 2-1 in the late stages of the match.

Sekou Amadou Camara then sealed Guinea's 3-1 victory when he scored from the spot-kick after the National Elephants were awarded a late penalty.
