Ghana international Andre Ayew says he was close to regaining his old form towards the end of the 2016/17 English Premier League (EPL) campaign.
The West Ham United midfielder netted five goals in 13 EPL appearances after returning to the club from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Gabon.
Ayew, who joined West Ham from fellow EPL side Swansea City prior to the 2016/17 campaign, is hoping to continue his good form in the new season.
“I think I was getting there [to my best form],” Ayew told Ghana Soccer Net.
“It was not my optimum, but I was getting there bit by bit by playing games," the 27-year-old player continued.
"For me, it was a shame the season came to an end because I was starting to feel better after my injury.
“I will be hoping to continue from where I left from.”
West Ham's first EPL match in the new season will be against Manchester United at the Old Trafford on Sunday, 13 August 2017.
