Kevin-Prince Boateng has dedicated the goal he scored at the weekend for new club Eintracht Frankfurt to the brain-damaged Ajax player Abdelhak Nouri.
Boateng scored his first goal in the Bundesliga since 2014 to see Frankfurt claim a narrow 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
The former Black Stars man raised his jersey to reveal the number 34 and the word ‘Nouri’ printed on an undershirt, in dedication to the 20-year-old Dutch player.
Nouri was diagnosed with severe and permanent brain damage five days after he collapsed in July during a friendly against Werder Bremen in Austria.
"My celebration was for the little boy Nouri, because we all know what happened to him and I wanted to just show them that we pray for him and we pray for the family,” Boateng told the Bundesliga’s official website.
"He was an outstanding football player," Boateng continued after the match, as reported by Bild. "This is a tragedy, and I want his family to know that I pray for him.
"I'll wear the shirt under my jersey all season."
