Frank Acheampong has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad ahead of their friendly against Saudi Arabia.
The Black Stars will face the Saudis in Jeddah on Tuesday for an exhibition game, following their elimination from the 2018 World Cup qualifiers this past weekend.
Ghana held Group E rivals Uganda to a goalless draw in Kampala on Saturday, but Sunday night’s win for Egypt over Congo has ensured that the North Africans will head to the finals in Russia next year.
Acheampong was one of Ghana’s best performers in the stalemate against the Cranes and coach James Kwesi Appiah would have wanted the player to be available.
However, the 23-year-old asked to return early to his Chinese club Tianjin Teda, who are currently battling the prospect of relegation from the country’s top flight league.
This means coach Appiah will have only 20 players available for the match against Saudi Arabia.
