Ajax Cape Town

Nickname:
The Urban Warriors
Founded:
1999

The 2015/16 season was a difficult one for Ajax Cape Town, who only managed a 10th place finish on the log, ending three points adrift of a place in the top half of the table. The Urban Warriors remain one of South Africa’s best clubs when it comes to pushing youngsters into the top flight and they continued that trend heading into the 2016/17 campaign by promoting no less than seven players from their development ranks: Darren Johnson, Sergio Kammies, Shane Saralina, Grant Margeman, Masilake Phohlongo, Luthando Matheza and Mogamat May. They have also strengthened by signing the likes of Roscoe Pietersen, Eric Chipeta, Joaquim Lupeta and Thabo Mosadi, though the loss of Riyaad Norodien, Abbubaker Mobara and goalkeeper Annsi Jaakkola came as a big blow. The pressure is on coach Roger De Sa to lift Ajax back into the top half of the PSL table – anything less will be considered a failure.
