Bloemfontein Celtic

Nickname:
Phunya Sele Sele
Founded:
1969

Bloemfontein Celtic had a disappointing 2016/17 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season which saw them finish 12th on the Absa Premiership standings – just a point above the relegation zone.

Nicknamed Phunya Sele Sele, Celtic signed and sealed a two-year contract with astute Serbian coach Veselin Jelušic as they prepared for the 2017/18 PSL campaign.

The former Botswana senior national team head coach is expected to guide Celtic to a top eight finish in the Absa Premiership in his first season with the Free State giants.

Having won three major Cups namely; 1985 Mainstay Cup, 2005 SAA Supa 8 Cup and 2012 Telkom KnockOut Cup, Phunya Sele Sele will be looking to do well in Cup competitions.

Celtic parted ways with Musa Nyatama, Lyle Lakay and Mthokozisi Dube, who were some of their key players, at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

However, the Siwelele Park-based side beefed up their squad with the signing of former Orlando Pirates players Ndumiso Mabena and Jacky Motshegwa amongst others.
