Kaizer Chiefs are coming off a disappointing 2015/16 campaign, which saw them finish fifth in the Absa Premiership and also failing to win any major trophy.

Although, Amakhosi reached the finals of the MTN8 Cup and Telkom KnockOut Cup, they were defeated by Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Despite having endured a forgettable season, the Chiefs management showed faith in their head coach Steve Komphela and they retained him for the 2016/17 campaign.

The club also backed Komphela's decision to overhaul the technical team. Legendary Ghana defender John Paintsil replaced Doctor Khumalo as the Chiefs assistant coach.

Brazilian duo Marco Munhoz and Alexandre Revoredo were appointed physical trainer and goalkeeper coach respectively. Munhoz and Paintsil had worked with Komphela at Maritzburg United.

Amakhosi were very active in the winter Transfer Window beefing their squad for the 2016/17 season. Title winning Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele headlined their new signings.

Sibusiso Khumalo and Enocent Mkhabela arrived at the Naturena side from SuperSport United. Zimbabwean duo Edmore Chirambadare and Mitchell Katsvairo as well as Zambian striker Lewis Macha also joined Amakhosi.
