The senior national football team of Djibouti is known by the nickname Riverains de la Mer Rogue (Shoremen of the Red Sea). They have never qualified for either the FIFA World Cup or the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and, in fact, have only attempted to qualify for the international tournaments since the year 2000 onwards.
Until Djibouti recorded a 1-0 win over Somalia in the opening stages of the 2010 World Cup qualifying tournament they had never won a full FIFA sanctioned international.
The Shoremen of the Red Sea are coached by Egyptian Ahmed Abdelmonem and play their home games at the Stade du Ville in Djibouti City.
The countrys top flight football division is the Djibouti Premier League, founded in 1987 and featuring ten of the best clubs. The reigning champions are AS Ali Sabieh Djibouti Telecom.
The most successful club in the history of the Djibouti Premier League is Force Nationale de Police, with seven league titles to their name. AS Compagnie Djibouti-Ethiopie have won four titles, while Gedarmerie Nationale and Societe Immobiliere de Djibouti have both won the championship twice.
