Orlando Pirates

Nickname:
The Buccaneers
Founded:
1937

Orlando Pirates suffered through a trophy-less season in 2015/16, finishing way off the pace in the Absa Premiership as well as suffering failures in the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout. They reached the finals of both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Nedbank Cup, but suffered defeats at the hands of Etoile du Sahel and SuperSport United respectively. This ultimately cost coach Eric Tinkler his job, though the former Bafana Bafana man landed on his feet by securing the managerial role at newly-formed Cape Town City. The Buccaneers, meanwhile, have brought in former Kaizer Chiefs man Muhsin Ertugral to take over. The German-Turk has a good record when it comes to winning cup competitions, but he has never won the league championship in South Africa. Pirates have also made several signings, bringing in the likes of Riyaad Norodien, Abbubaker Mobara, Thabiso Kutumela and Bernard Morrison, while there are some surprising names on their exit list, including Sifiso Myeni.
