Africa’s most successful club and the current Champions League holders, Egyptian giants Al Ahly were surprisingly eliminated from the top tier continental competition after a surprise defeat to their namesake from Libya, Al Ahly Benghazi.

They have now dropped down to the Confederation Cup, a tournament they won a record four times (1984, 1985, 1986, 1993) when it was still known as the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

Hailing from Cairo, the Red Devils, who were found in 1907 and named CAF’s ‘Club of the Century’ in 2000, are coached by former Egyptian international Mohamed Youssef.
